The Saratoga Special
A newspaper at the country's greatest meet, The Special covers the Saratoga summer season from Broadway to the backstretch. Opened in 1864, Saratoga Race Course is one of the world's great sporting venues – and The Special covers everything that happens there during the season. The Saratoga Special was founded in 2001 and has become a fixture of the racing season at Saratoga Race Course with coverage you – literally – can get anywhere else. We've got the best handicapping around, stellar photography and various pieces of editorial content – news, features, opinions, bit and bobs, this and that – from a crack team of writers and editors. The Special staff has won three Eclipse Awards, so far, for excellence in Thoroughbred racing journalism, been recognized by the American Horse Publications in its annual editorial contest and received the prestigious Charles Engelhard Award from the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association for “outstanding coverage of the Thoroughbred industry.”
Published 20 times in 2021, The Special emerges from Covid with a hybrid print/online schedule focused on Wednesday and Saturday editions during the eight-week season – plus a Sales Week schedule of six consecutive editions to focus on the always-memorable Fasig-Tipton yearling sales. An advertising partner since our earliest days, Fasig-Tipton hosts its 100th Saratoga sale this summer and The Special will be part of it.
Launched in March 2013, the website covers Thoroughbred racing while specializing in original content you won't find anywhere else. The site will take you to the tracks, the barns, the fields, the stands, the roads and more with a backdrop of racing in the various places we live, work and travel. The site will be a summer online platform for The Saratoga Special newspaper, and offer year-round coverage of major events from the worlds of flat racing and jump racing. The site offers several advertising options, though we're open to creative suggestions so let us know if you've got something specific in mind.
Banner: A horizontal banner on the mainpage and all content areas. Dimensions: 875 pixels wide by 170 pixels high. Multiple banners will rotate in this position when sold.
Cost: $250 per month. $2000 for 12 months.
Button: A nearly square button on the home page and all content areas. Dimensions: 295 pixels wide by 108 pixels high. Multiple buttons can appear on the same page.
Cost: $200 per month. $1500 for 12 months.
