The second edition of The 2020 Special went live Friday night, another jam-packed digital newspaper covering a growing roster of racetracks running on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.
The 40-page edition follows the debut publication for May 2, covering split divisions of the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby and Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap at Oaklawn Park. The second edition of The Special focuses its attention again on the 3-year-old division with the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes that headlines a strong Stephen Foster Preview card at Churchill Downs.
The team behind The Saratoga Special again produced a majority of the content and stretched its reach to Southern California for coverage of Santa Anita Park’s holiday weekend action that includes Saturday’s Charles Whittingham Handicap and Daytona Stakes.
Popular columns and features familiar to readers of The Saratoga Special are back in the latest edition, including Sean Clancy’s “Cup of Coffee” and Joe Clancy’s “The Outside Rail.” We also packed the edition with Here & There, with Worth Repeating, By the Numbers, Quote of the Day and The Chief.
Fasig-Tipton continued its support and we present the second Fasig-Tipton Stable Tour walking (virtually) through recently inducted Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse’s multi-string operation.
John Shapazian returns for another Saturday of handicapping, along with Tom Law, Charles Bedard and Rob Whitlock, plus some guest in-house handicappers from Santa Anita and Churchill.
Three more editions are planned, leading up to the opening of Saratoga Race Course in mid-July. Here’s the slate:
June 20 Edition: Thanks to a blockbuster race card at Belmont Park announced this week, this promises to be a can’t-miss for racing fans with full preview coverage of the Belmont Stakes and its accompanying stakes races, a catch-up from Santa Anita and other tracks, some history and plenty more.
June 27 Edition: A week after the first jewel of the 2020 Triple Crown (deal with it), this issue will recap Belmont Stakes Day while previewing the strong Stephen Foster Stakes Day at Churchill Downs and looking at Belmont’s card of four graded stakes led by the Grade 1 Just A Game.
July 4 Edition: Three weeks in a row means another strong edition covering the action from Churchill Downs and Belmont Park. The latter plays host to the Metropolitan Mile, Manhattan and Suburban on a standout card.
