Summer in full swing, Saratoga right around the corner and another edition of The 2020 Special to make sure you’re up to speed for an Independence Day like no other in the midst of the ongoing pandemic.
The fifth issue of The 2020 Special, a publication launched during the coronavirus outbreak by the team behind The Saratoga Special and This Is Horse Racing to provide at least a little distraction from the bad news, covers everything you need to know about Saturday’s Met Mile Day card at Belmont Park and so much more.
We checked in with our first California-based trainer for the Fasig-Tipton Stable Tour, followed up Tom’s d’Etat’s huge score in last week’s Grade 2 Stephen Foster, blanketed the Virginia Gold Cup at Great Meadow and set the stage a bit for Opening Day at Saratoga in a shade more than two weeks’ time.
The 2020 Special, which featured two issues in both May and June and now another in July, goes on hiatus for a bit with 17 editions of The Saratoga Special on tap. We’ll celebrate our 20th season covering racing’s best meet, albeit a bit different than the previous 19 but with the usual depth, intimacy and humor that readers come to expect.
Before we wade into the 40 days of Saratoga though we’re proud of the five issues of The 2020 Special and this edition in particular. We preview the Met Mile from the perspective of two of the race’s major players – Code Of Honor and Vekoma – along with detailed previews of the Grade 1 Manhattan, Grade 2 Suburban and Grade 3 Poker and Victory Ride.
Read it from the start, where you’ll of course find Here & There, right to finish and Sean Clancy’s Cup of Coffee column that should hit you more than once.
