The Inside Rail

If the wind shifts the right way and the announcer senses a photo finish, we can hear the call from our front porch. The Middleburg Spring Races and its fall counterpart, the Virginia Fall Races, at Glenwood Park serve as our local venue, our corner pub. A couple of miles by car and shorter by field, it’s time for the annual rite of spring. And, thankfully, we won’t be home watching livestream and hoping to hear the call. It’s 2021, owners are going to the races!

The iconic Temple Gwathmey, look through the previous winners' list, attracts a stellar field with champion novice Snap Decision, still riding a win streak, Arkle winner Footpad, new import Razoul, promising Galway Kid and three others.

Riverdee runs three, Lemonade Thursday, Make A Stand and Gibralfaro.

I'll catch eight races at Middleburg, the Derby on my phone and should make opening pitch at Haske Field for the Majors Tigers vs. Majors Angels.

Enjoy the day.
